Styling a bookshelf can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. There are so many items and accessories to choose from, and you need to have a cohesive flow to make it look purposeful.
PLACEMENT
To make the process easier, I use the acronym “PLACEMENT” to help organize and style a bookshelf.
Place larger items on the shelf first. This will allow you to have your key pieces in place before anything else
Layering objects such as frames, books, etc helps create depth and interest
Artwork and picture frames can be a way to add a personal touch to the area
Color scheme is important when selecting your items to place on the shelf. It will help make the design look more cohesive
Elevate objects to create a more interesting visual design
Movement
Movement of the eye is key when styling a bookshelf. This can be done through placing similar color objects throughout the shelves, making the overall design look balanced
Empty space is very important to make the design look intentional and purposeful
Natural elements, such as plants or wood, help bring the outdoors in
Tweet and tinker your design until it is aesthetically pleasing to you
