Building a DIY Tent for Ramadan

Childhood memories are made of building and playing in makeshift “houses”. Whether it’s a cardboard box that’s converted into a “castle”, or a blanket thrown over some chairs and tables to create a “tent”, it’s always provides a good time! Today’s DIY was inspired exactly by these memories!

Materials Required

I wanted to create a tent for the kids to make memories in while enjoying some quiet time to offer their prayers, do Dhikr, participate in Itikaaf in the last 10 days of Ramadan, or just to read. I got the kids involved in this project and we all had fun spending quality time together as we built it. I’m giving you all the details of how we made it and links to where to get the supplies, so that you can make one in your homes as well.

The materials you’ll need are:

– ¾ inch PVC pipe. 3 of them are cut 6 feet long, and 8 of them cut 5 feet long.
– 2 elbow connectors
– 6 x 3-way connectors
– 1 flat white sheet

Steps to Follow

1. Place all the material in one area. Move them to their respective places to make an outline of the tent on the floor.

2. Start building out the bottom frame. Make sure to attach the PVC pipes to the connectors.

3. Begin putting the corner poles up. Try to get some help from the kids! Also squeeze the PVC pipes into the connectors so they don’t fall down!

4. Finish the structure by putting up the top frame. Connect one side and then the side next to it. Make sure the pipes are snuggly fitting into the connectors, or the tent will come crashing down.

5. Put up the white sheet over the structure. You will need some help with the kids for this. Try and use plastic hooks and/or safety pins to keep the cloth in place.

6. Now accessorize your tent! It’s fun to put up lights, a small area rug, and some cushions to make it cozy and comfy! You can find the links to the items below:
